Jakub Ciążela is a planetary, ore, and marine geologist, serving as an assistant professor at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ING PAN) and CEO of MIRORES MDS. He currently leads five ESA-funded projects on lunar exploration and three OPUS NCN grants from the National Science Centre, focused on metallogenic processes on Mars and in other tectonic environments. His research aims to understand metal migration mechanisms and metallogenic processes in challenging environments like the Moon, Mars, and ocean floors, while also developing new technologies for metal ore prospecting.
Dr. Ciążela has played key roles in international research, including Expedition 360 of the International Ocean Discovery Program in the Indian Ocean and the exploration of polymetallic sulfides on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. He created and leads the MIRORES project, which is central to the planning of the Polish Lunar Mission for the Polish Space Agency (POLSA).
In addition to his research, Dr. Ciążela is the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Ore Mineralogy (COM) of the International Mineralogical Association, a visiting professor at the University of Milan, and Chair of the Biogeodynamics Education group in the “pan-EUROpean BIoGeodynamics network (EUROBIG)” COST Action. He has authored dozens of peer-reviewed scientific articles, contributing significantly to planetary and marine geology.
